It’s a busy weekend out there in NEJC. So let’s get a quick rundown on all of the places you can go without leaving home:

The Prairie Village Jazz Festival.
The premiere event of the weekend takes place in Harmon Park Saturday with a stellar lineup of talent once again. The festival kicks off at 3 p.m. with the SM East Blue Knights and wraps up with headliner Marilyn Maye at 8:30 p.m. The cost is $5 for adults and free to children under 18. A full schedule is here.

Turkey Creek car show

The Turkey Creek Car and Motorcycle Show.
Hundreds of classic cars come to the Merriam Marketplace Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Merriam Marketplace. The event is free to spectators, but there is a cost to register a car.

Westwood neighborhood picnic.
The Westwood police department is partnering with the KCK department to host a picnic for the community from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Retail Grocers Association Parking lot on 47th Street. The picnic is free with all food provided as a thank you for community support.

Westwood and Roeland Park city-wide garage sales.
Both Westwood and Roeland Park have garage sales running at houses across the two cities this weekend. The Roeland Park sale runs through Sunday. The Westwood sale is on Saturday and a listing of houses and items for sale can be found here.


Overland Park Fire Department schedules 9-11 Memorial Service.
Overland Park’s Fire Department will recognize the 15th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks Sunday with a service starting at 7:30 a.m. The service will include markers noting the time the planes struck the towers and when the towers fell. The event will be held at the Overland Park 9-11 Memorial, 12401 Hemlock.
