Prairie Village City Hall entrance under construction. Visitors to city hall in Prairie Village will need to use an entrance at the back of the building. The courtyard has been demolished this week in preparation for a rebuild that was approved by the city council earlier this year. The brick work in the courtyard had been in disrepair. The new entrance will have an ADA-compliant ramp. The temporary entrance path from the parking lot is marked.

Democratic internal poll shows Sidie trailing incumbent Yoder in District 3 race, but Republicans facing favorability problems. An internal poll released by the campaign of congressional candidate Jay Sidie shows the Mission Woods Democrat trailing Kevin Yoder in the District 3 congress race 37-49 in an initial gauging of their voting intent. The poll notes, however, that Gov. Sam Brownback’s low approval rating may be a drag on Republican candidates. See the poll results here.

SM East soccer advances to championship game. In an effort featuring solid defending, the Lancer boys soccer team held off Blue Valley High Wednesday evening to win 1-0 and advance to the championship game of the KA-MO Classic Soccer Tournament. The Lancers scored Wednesday when senior Grayson Rapp crossed the ball to junior Tommy Nelson in the box 12 minutes into the first half.  The Lancers had chances to extend their lead in the second half, hitting one shot off the crossbar and having a penalty kick blocked by a dive from the Blue Valley keeper. It was the second clean sheet in as many games for junior goalkeepers Nick Gasperi and Collyn Lowry. East will try to defend last year’s tournament title and add another trophy at 2 p.m. Saturday against Lee’s Summit North at the Blue Valley District Activity Center. SM East football game tonight. The SM East football game that had been scheduled for Friday has been moved to tonight. The game will start at 6 p.m. at the SM North stadium. The Lancers are playing SM Northwest. The change was made because of storms predicted for Friday evening.

SM East volleyball moves up in rankings. The SM East girls volleyball team is now ranked fourth in the state in class 6A. The team had been ranked seventh in the preseason. Blue Valley teams occupy the top three spots.
