The SM North football team got off to a strong start in its 2016 season opener with a 38-7 win over SM South this weekend.
Veteran quarterback Will Schneider, who is a senior this year, led the team by passing for four touchdowns and running for a fifth.
Avante Williams caught two touchdown passes as did Noah Laird. Schneider also had 120 yards rushing to lead the Indians.
SM North will meet Lawrence next week, the team that ended the season for SM North last year in the first round of the playoffs.
Bishop Miege did not fare as well on opening night, losing to Blue Valley by a score of 35-28. The game matched up two showcase football programs. Bishop Miege won the 4A state championship last year and Blue Valley lost in the state 6A championship game. Blue Valley also disrupted the Miege bid for an undefeated season last year.
The Blue Valley defense was able to stop Miege twice late in the game when the Stags were driving to tie the game. One stop came on an interception and one on a fumble.
