Former SM East running back on Iowa squad. Wyatt Edmisten a 5-9, 185 pound running back who was instrumental in the first-ever SM East state championship team of 2014, is a member of the Central College of Iowa team this year. Central has captured a record 30 Iowa Conference championships in D-III. The team has not had a losing season since 1960. Edmisten ended his career at SM East in the loss to Olathe North in the 2015 playoffs.

Phone service restored in Fairway. Telephone and Internet service to Fairway City Hall and the police department were restored at 6 p.m. Wednesday after being out throughout the day. A lightning strike Tuesday night knocked out city communications. Emergency 911 service was not affected.

Westwood draft master plan ready. The Westwood master plan that has been in development for some months will be shown in draft form at a public meeting on Sept. 14. Members of the public can drop by the community room in city hall anytime between 6 and 8 p.m. to view the displays and comment on the draft elements of the plan.
