Leawood native completes West Point basic training. Leawood native Bryce Johnston, a graduate of Kansas City Christian Schoo, has completed basic training at the United States Military Academy. Johnston started training at West Point June 27. The basic training program requires cadets to learn the fundamentals of first aid, mountaineering, marksmanship, handling grenades and basic biology, nuclear physics and chemistry training.

School district completes fiber network. IUnite Private Networks and the Shawnee Mission School District have announced the completion of a next generation fiber network connecting all 50 school district locations, according to a statement from the two organizations. The fiber-optic Ethernet Wide Area Network will connect students, educators, administrators and parents via ultrahigh-speed broadband connections with speeds of 10Gbps to each district location, as well as 10Gbps of Ethernet Internet Access district wide.

SM East volleyball beats No. 2 team. The SM East girls volleyball team knocked off Olathe Northwest, the No. 2 team in the Kansas Volleyball Association pre-season 6A rankings by PrepVolleyball. SM East was ranked No. 7. It was the first volleyball match of the season. SM East came back to win after being down 0-2 in sets.

British car show coming to Merriam. The All British Car and Cycle Show, a display of 150 cars and motorcycles, will be held this Sunday at Aristocrat Motors in Merriam from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The dealership at 9400 W. 65th St. will host ¬†British vehicles ranging from classic cars to modern marvels. Voting for the vehicles will end at noon, with awards to be presented at 2 p.m. Music and games will be provided and food will be available to purchase on site from two of Kansas City’s top food trucks.

SM East game up for game of the week. The match between SM East and Olathe South this Friday is up for the HyVee Game of the Week. The voting closes at noon on Thursday. The winning schools receive $500 and are featured in live broadcasts during news segments. Votes can be cast on KMBC Facebook page.
