SM East continues to lead the district high schools in ACT average scores, according to a breakdown of how graduating students performed on the college admission test in 2016.

SM East students averaged 25.3 on the ACT composite score compared to the 23.9 composite average of all high schools in the Shawnee Mission School District. The state average was 21.9 and the national was 20.8. A perfect score is 36.

SM East was followed by SM Northwest, with a 24.3 composite average; SM West, 22.7; SM South, 23.7, and SM North, 22.4.

SM East also reported the largest share of graduating students taking the exam, with 88 percent. The district average was 72 percent. SM North had the smallest share of students taking the exam at 52 percent.

This was the fifth consecutive year where SM East led the district in ACT composite averages.

Earlier this month, SM East reported that eight students scored the perfect 36 on at least one of the four test sections that make up the ACT, English, math, reading and science reasoning.

One of the seniors also got a 36 on the composite score which combines the four section tests.
