Merriam police are asking for help identifying these men who are suspected of using counterfeit money.

Merriam police looking for men believed to use counterfeit money. Merriam police are asking for the public’s help in identifying and locating two men who bought gift cards at the Walgreen’s at Antioch and Johnson Drive in Merriam. They are suspected of using counterfeit money for the purchases. Police issued the alert Tuesday. Anyone with information should call 913-322-5568.

Students can leave a lasting impression on the district. Shawnee Mission Superintendent Jim Hinson said a group of students have been asked to nominate names for two new educational facilities being built by the district, a Center for Academic Achievement expected to open in early 2017, and new elementary school now in the early planning stage at 87th and Haven streets in Lenexa.
The students will not only suggest names for the new elementary school, but its mascot as well. Their nominations will be considered by the Shawnee Mission school board in September.

Foundation donates to Shawnee Mission teachers. The Clay Blair Foundation of Lenexa has donated $75,000 to the Shawnee Mission School District to reward quality teaching. Fifty teachers will receive $1,000 in unrestricted funds as well as $500 for classroom use, according to Superintendent Jim Hinson. Teachers selected for the grants will be notified at faculty meetings Aug. 30. In addition, Hinson said the district added four teachers at the beginning of the new school year this week to handle increased enrollment and there is a potential for additional hires.

Video footage captured of suspects in van. A Prairie Village man told Fox 4 that his video cameras captured images of the suspects who were arrested after fleeing Prairie Village police late Monday night. The suspects and the van were captured on the home surveillance of Andrew Boyce. He had put the cameras up after his girlfriend’s car was broken into.
