The Prairie Village city council this month got a first look at plans that will extend the pedestrian and bike trail along Tomahawk Road from Porter Park all the way to the Village Shops.

Public works officials are expected to hold a community open house on the project in the coming months to get feedback on the plans before construction begins. As currently configured, the project would include a new pedestrian bridge to the east of the 71st Street Brush Creek crossing, and a 10-foot-wide asphalt trail that would run to the north of the creek bed from 71st Street to the Village Shops.

The original stretch of trail along Tomahawk was installed back in 2011.
