Prairie Village staff recommends holding back on additional house design guidelines for now

Prairie Village Assistant City Administrator Wes Jordan told the city council earlier this month that since the enactment of new house design regulations in July, the city has received virtually no feedback — positive or negative — about the guidelines’ effect on homebuilders.

As such, he said, staff has recommended putting a hold on plans to explore more detailed regulations that might put restrictions on the kinds of building materials contractors can use and architectural requirements for the sides and backs of new houses.

Jordan told the council he believed it was prudent to see how the new guidelines impacted the design of new-build projects in the city before the city considers further regulation. But, he said, the city may choose to pursue additional regulation in the coming months or years if the need for them arises.
