Shortly after school begins this fall, Indian Hills students will have a brand new field for its physical education classes and the district’s new middle school sports programs.
As part of the bond issue approved by voters in 2015, the district is spending $632,530 to install synthetic turf on the Indian Hills field. In addition to use by the middle schools, the field will also be used by SM East teams when field space at the high school are booked.
“The synthetic turf field…will provide durability and greater flexibility for extended use,” said district spokeswoman Leigh Anne Neal. “Additionally, the improved drainage that is part of the installation will offer greater access for use during wet weather.”
The district anticipates the field will be completed and ready for use by mid- to late-September.
The Indian Hills field had regrading, seeding and sod work as part of ongoing maintenance approximately five years ago. With the new synthetic turf, such maintenance projects will not be necessary.
