It was the store that never opened although lots of people were looking forward to it. The Fishing Fly Box had taken a space on Mission’s Johnson Drive in late 2014. Even though it appeared to be stocked with merchandise, it never opened its doors to the public.

The business, which has an online presence selling a large assortment of flies and fly fishing gear, occupied the space on the south side of Johnson Drive near the Farmers Market green space. It took the former Hues of Art spot. Although it removed the old business sign, it never put up a new sign for the fly fishing store or established retail hours.

The operation was in contradiction to the guidelines for the Johnson Drive area which is intended to house retail and service businesses that do transactions with the public. In recent days, the space has been vacated and any evidence of merchandise moved out.

Business license renewals in Mission come due on July 1 and the license was not renewed this year, according to the city.
