Prairie Village joins Leawood in passing proclamation encouraging residents to talk about kids and guns

A second northeast Johnson County city has signed on to the Asking Saves Kids gun safety campaign.

Prairie Village on Monday approved the issuance of a proclamation encouraging residents to ask if there are unsecured weapons in homes where their children or grandchildren play. Leawood became the first city in Kansas to sign on to the campaign when it issued its proclamation last month.

Councilmember Eric Mikkelson credited resident Paul Temme, who became an outspoken proponent of gun safety measures after witnessing the shooting at the Jewish Community Center in 2014, with helping organize the initiative in Prairie Village.
