SM East gifted teacher cites ‘uncertain situation in Kansas’ as reason for move from district

SM East journalists took home a slew of Quill and Scroll awards.

Last month, Blue Valley Superintendent Todd White suggested that local school districts were having a harder time attracting top-level educators as a result of the prolonged and very public battle over education funding in Kansas.

A recent departure by an SM East teacher seems to be a case in point. SM East gifted education teacher Kimberly Grinnell recently sent an email to parents announcing she was leaving for another state.

“Sadly, the uncertain situation in Kansas necessitated my looking for the best option for me and my family, so I have accepted a position in another state and will not be returning to SMSD next year,” Grinnell wrote.
