Police took two men into custody early Sunday morning in southern Prairie Village after being called out to a home near 91st Street and Roe Avenue after reports of gunshots.

The first call to the Prairie Village Police Department came around 1 a.m., but officers could not locate any suspicious activity when they arrived and cleared the scene without making any arrests. Around three hours later, dispatchers again sent officers to 9100 block of Roe Avenue after new reports of shots fired.

When officers arrived, they heard several gun shots that appeared to be coming from the backyard of the home. Police made contact with two adult males and took them into custody.

Information released by the police department indicates the officers on the scene do not know at this time whether the shots they heard were directed at them.

Corporal Joel Porter said Monday morning that one of the two men initially taken into custody has been charged with criminal discharge of a firearm (it is illegal to shoot a gun within the Prairie Village city limits). The man posted bond and was released.
