The Shawnee Mission Rotary Club this morning informed members that one its most beloved Rotarians had passed away.
John Hollyman, the retired dentist who was a longtime Mission resident, died Thursday at the age of 101.
Hollyman was one of the early mayors of Countryside when it was still its own city. It later merged with the city of Mission. He was one Shawnee Mission Rotary Club’s most prominent members over his decades of involvement with the organization, serving as a district governor at one point. In 2014, the club announced they would dedicate the new Rotary clocktower on Johnson Drive in Mission in Hollyman’s honor.
Current Shawnee Mission Rotary Club president Mark Lieb told members Hollyman had passed away of natural causes. Funeral arrangements are in process.
