Annual fireworks set for July 3. The annual fireworks display at the St. Agnes Athletic Field near 53rd and Mission Road will be held Sunday,, July 3. The fireworks display is sponsored by Westwood, Fairway, Mission Woods, Roeland Park and Westwood Hills. The fireworks are expected to start at 9:30 p.m. or dusk. In case of bad weather, they will be moved to Friday, July 8.

Westwood pool closures. Westwood residents can buy pool passes for the Woodside pools during the summer. The city has announced a number of dates when the pools will be closed early for special events or swim meets. Information on pool passes can be found here. Akshay Dinakar at Carnegie Hall. Prairie Village’s Akshay Dinakar will perform with the National Youth Orchestra of the USA at Carnegie Hall on July 14. The orchestra will then depart on a six-week concert tour of Europe. Akshay plays the violin in the orchestra.
