Controversial Slim Chickens project in Prairie Village canceled

It looks like the Slim Chickens restaurant project that posed a series of concerns to residents of one Prairie Village neighborhood won’t be coming to the city after all.

Prairie Village administrators say the developer informed the city earlier this spring that they were halting plans to bring the new restaurant to State Line Road. The property manager, Block & Co., and franchisee spent month lobbying the Prairie Village Planning Commission and City Council to give the project the green light after a group of homeowners whose properties backed up to the site told officials they worried about noise from a drive through window, congested traffic along State Line, bright exterior lights shining into their windows and the smell from the chicken frier.

The developers came back to the city several times with tweaks to address those concerns before finally winning approval for needed zoning for the project back in September.

Block & Co. did not respond to a request for an update on the status of the property at this time.
