SM North will have a different athletic director next year than had previously been announced.
Matt Johnson, the SM North alum who has served as the district-wide athletic director for Shawnee Mission since 2014, had been tapped to fill the school-level role at the school next year as part of a reworking of the administration following the departure of principal Richard Kramer.
But Johnson informed district officials this spring that he would instead be accepting a role as associate principal and athletic director at Olathe South for the 2016-17 school year.
“The district is working to fill the athletic director position at Shawnee Mission North,” said district spokeswoman Leigh Anne Neal. “With recent postings for high school athletic director positions at high schools in the district, there is a ready pool of candidates to consider for this position. I anticipate that there may be a recommendation for approval to fill the SM North position as early as the May 23 board meeting.”
Kramer is leaving SM North to become the district’s director of student activities and athletics. He will be replaced as SM North principal by SM West associate principal Dave Tappan.
