Tonight will be the ninth and last time that Richard Kramer presides over a SM North graduation as principal.
“We’re a family,” Kramer said in a farewell interview with SM North junior Sam Thompson for KNDN productions, the SM North broadcast team.
“This is just a fabulous place,” Kramer said. “This has been a great run. In the interview, Kramer said his best times were being out in the hallway or at a school activity. “It’s the culture that I am most proud of,” Kramer tells Thompson.
Kramer started with the Shawnee Mission School District in the 1978-79 school year. While he is leaving SM North, he won’t be leaving the district. Next year he moves to the position of district director of student activities and athletics.
“I am going to miss being out in those hallways,” Kramer said. He also spent some time in the hallways at SM East where he coached from 1979 to 1998 and taught in the building from 1988 to 1998.
