Lancer lacrosse earns two seed in LAKC tournament, will face Pembroke in opening round. The Lancer lacrosse team will face a familiar foe in the opening round of the Lacrosse Association of Kansas City tournament starting next week. The Lancers earned the two seed in the tournament and will face seventh seeded Pembroke Hill next Friday, May 20 at 6 p.m.

Yoder thanks Prairie Village for hosting congressional art submissions. Rep. Kevin Yoder’s office this week announced the winner of his 2016 Congressional Arts Competition, Padee Vang, a Sumner Academy student whose pen and ink work depicts the Sauer Mansion in Wyandotte County. The finalists for this years competition were put on display in the R.G. Endres Gallery at Prairie Village City Hall. Merriam Park School earns honor. Merriam Park Elementary School has been honored as part of the Kansas School of Character Recognition Program. The school received an Enhanced Spotlight Recognition for offering excellent character education that focuses on students’ social, emotional, and character development.

SM East, SM North graduations next week. High school seniors will celebrate the end of their K-12 education next week with Commencement ceremonies. SM East graduation will be held at 7 p.m. May 17 at the SM North stadium. The SM North graduation will be 7 p.m. May 18, also at the SM North stadium. Each ceremony will be live streamed on www.smsd.org.

Free county park admission June 4. A Day In The Park from the Johnson County Park & Recreation District will include free admission to park beaches and boat rentals at park marinas. June 4 is also the date for the free fishing weekend.

Discount deadline for Roeland Park Soccer Clinic May 20. Space is limited for the R Park Soccer Clinic in Roeland Park designed for kids from 5 to 9 years old and May 20 is the last day to receive a discount from the full registration price of $40. The clinic will be held June 25 in R Park. It will start at 9 a.m. for ages 5 and 6 and 11:30 a.m. for ages 7 to 9. Each registration includes $50 in soccer gifts for each participant. The event is a fundraiser to bring a drinking fountain to R Park for people and dogs. Registration is available at https://www.i9sports.com/

KC Bass Workshop back at SM North. The KC Bass workshop will be held July 15-19 at SM North. Early enrollment has been extended to May 15. The world class symposium is in its seventh year and founded by Mission resident John Hamil. The workshop will once again feature maestro Francois Rabbath and many other faculty members with widespread reputation for their accomplishments. More information can be found here.
