St. Agnes students turn out in force for day of service. Hundreds of St. Agnes Catholic School students spent their Friday helping those in need. From kindergarten through 8th grade, the school’s students participated in “Rams Reaching Out Day,” participating in community service projects to benefit Catholic Charities. Each grade had its own project, from the 2nd graders hosting Foster Grandparents of Kansas City, Kansas, to the 7th graders putting in a day of work at TurnStyles in Overland Park.
Mission food truck event Tuesday. Mission’s Farm & Flower Market will mark the start of the 2016 season, the second for the market, with a food truck kick-off party Tuesday, May 3 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Besides the food trucks, the event will include live music and a chance for the first 50 guests to receive Mission Market bucks. The market is on Johnson Drive just west of Nall.
Roeland Park takes in 180 pounds of drugs. The national drug take-back day yielded 180 pounds of expired or unwanted prescriptions drugs at the Roeland Park site inside the Price Chopper. Several other cities also participated in the event.
SM North school record at relays. Samantha Taylor, Amber Reed, Jazmin Williams and Katie Kasunic set a new SM North school record in the 4X800 relay and recorded the fastest time in the state at the Seaman Relays in Topeka this weekend. The boys team won the meet and the girls placed second. Jazmin Williams won the 300 hurdles and Jade Williams won the 200 for the girls. Belesti Akalu won the 3200 and his brother Alex placed second. Daniel Zolotor won the pole vault.
