Corinth Elementary students enjoy the season with “Walking School Bus” program. More than 230 Corinth Elementary students on Wednesday took advantage of the mild weather by hoofing it to school as part of Corinth’s Spring Walking School bus program, groups of students gather once a week to walk to school.
Large item pick-up day for southern Prairie Village is Saturday. Large item pick-up day for Prairie Village homes south of 75th Street is this Saturday, April 16. Check out the city’s website for a list of the items eligible to be left at the curb.
Community recycling event April 30. Paper shredding and electronics recycling will be available from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 30, in the Fairway City Hall parking lot. The participating cities are Fairway, Mission, Mission Hills, Mission Woods, Roeland Park, Westwood and Westwood Hills. Proof of residency will be required to participate and the event is not intended for businesses. A maximum of 10 storage boxes of documents can be shredded for free. Electronics also can be recycled. A fee will be collected for monitors and TVs.
Drug take back April 30. The Roeland Park Police Department will be collecting unwanted prescription drugs form 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 30 at the Price Chopper in Roeland Park. The Mission Police Department will be doing the same at the Mission Hy-Vee pharmacy during the same hours. Unused or expired medication can be turned in as part of the DEA Drug Take Back Day.
Dolce Bakery hosting brownie night for Hands to Hearts. Dolce Bakery at the Village Shops this evening will be hosting a special event to benefit Hands to Hearts, a Kansas City organization that runs a backsnacks program as well as clothing and book drives. All proceeds from Dolce’s Brownie Night sales between 6 and 8 p.m. will got to the organization.
Community School #1 to host open house Saturday. Community School #1, an independent school housed at First Lutheran Church in Mission Hills, will host an open house for interested families this Saturday, April 16 from 8 to 11 a.m. In addition to having students’ work on display, the school will have a pancake breakfast.
