Wentz pitches no-no against Blue Valley Northwest, strikes out 16. SM East senior Joey Wentz improved his pitching record to 3-0 on the year and propelled the Lancers to their sixth straight win with a no hitter against Blue Valley Northwest on Saturday before a home crowd on SM East’s field. Wentz struck out 16 of the 22 batters he faced, and walked just one. SM East won the game 5-0 with the help of a big offensive day from Luke Anderson, who went two for three at the plate with an inside the park home run.
SM North’s Williams named Girls Athlete of the Meet at Blue Valley Relays. SM North senior Jazmin Williams was named Athlete of the Meet for the second year in a row this weekend at the Blue Valley Relays. William won both the 300 hurdles and the long jump. Expect lane closures on Shawnee Mission Parkway Tuesday night. Merriam police have advised motorists that eastbound Shawnee Mission Parkway is expected to be closed from approximately 10 p.m. Tuesday until midnight for the move of the Johnson County Electric House to its new location. The total trip will take approximately nine hours and the first closures will start about 7 p.m. in Shawnee. The house will head south down Metcalf. More on the move is available here.
Signups needed for The Dream Team 5K. The SM North Dream Team is planning a 5K run on April 30 with proceeds going to SAFEHOME which is dedicated to helping people who are in abusive relationships have a safe place for the families to go. They will need 100 people signed up for the run by April 20 to be able to hold the benefit. More information about the run, which starts at the Merriam Farmers Market at 8 a.m., can be found here along with links to register for the run.
