SM East’s Kayla Wiltfong among 2016 Shooting Stars Award winners

Wiltfong_KaylaSM East student Kayla Wiltfong on Sunday was among the select group of 18 Johnson County high schoolers announced as recipients of this year’s Shooting Stars Awards.

In November, The Arts Council of Johnson County named 108 high school seniors as finalists in the 19th annual installment of the awards series. At the Shooting Stars Gala at Johnson County Community College on Sunday, Wiltfong learned that she had received the $700 scholarship prize for coming in second on in the Literature category. There were nine finalists in that category.

Wiltfong was nominated by SM East teacher Amy Andersen.

Founded by former Arts Council of Johnson County chair Bob Endres in 1997, the program has now awarded more than $200,000 in college scholarship to Johnson County students. It has also awarded more than $65,000 in teacher honorariums.
