A truck in the Lowe’s parking lot in Roeland Park caught fire shortly before noon today and was fully involved by the time firefighters and police arrived.

Firefighters from Consolidated Fire District No. 2 took only about seven minutes after they arrived on the scene to put out the blaze with water.

Roeland Park police also responded to the call. Police reported that the truck’s owner had several bags of leaves in the truck that he was taking for trash disposal. They ignited after he had gone inside the store to shop and the fire gutted the truck. No injuries were reported and there was no damage to other vehicles, according to police reports. Police said the quick response from CFD2 and that fact winds were calmer today helped prevent additional damage.

The owner of the truck was reported to be a KCK firefighter who does landscaping on the side.
