Shawnee Mission Health owner purchases McEachen Administrative Center from school district for $2 million

The Shawnee Mission Board of Education on Monday approved the sale of the McEachen Administrative Center at 7325 Antioch Road to Adventist Health System, the national non-for-profit healthcare organization that operates Shawnee Mission Health, for $2,050,000.

The 4.65 acre property is strategically located for Adventist, with the main Shawnee Mission Health campus just a quarter mile to the west across Antioch.

The school board did not discuss the purchase offer in any detail, approving the sale as part of its consent agenda. Administrators noted during their comments at the board meeting that Adventist’s bid met the minimum sales price set by the district.

The Johnson County Appraiser’s Office lists the property value at $2,460,860 – $1,448,610 for the improved value and $1,012,250 for the land.

The agreement approved by the board of directors would allow the district to retain occupancy of the facility for a rent of $1 per month through July 1, 2017 — around the time the new Center for Academic Achievement is scheduled to open. The district will be moving the functions currently housed in McEachen and the Arrowhead, Indian Creek and Broadmoor facilities to the new center.
