Stop me if you’ve heard this before…
SM East’s boys swim and dive team cruised away from the field in Saturday’s Sunflower League Championship, securing the school’s 13th consecutive league title.
The Lancers’ closest competitor in the meet was a talented Lawrence Free State squad that won six of the meet’s 12 events. But the Lancers’ dominance in the relay events kept them out of striking distance from the Firebirds, with SM East amassing 375 team points to Free State’s 258.
Coach Wiley Wright, now in his 31st season with SM East, and the Lancers will now turn their attention to trying to secure back-to-back state titles. The 6A state meet will be Feb. 18-20 at the Capitol Federal Natatorium in Topeka.
