The Bloomsbury Bistro in the Mission Road Antique Mall will be closing this month after 15 years in the Corinth location.
Cari Jo Cavalcante, chef and owner, moved to Pittsburgh, Pa., in 2012. “The time has come for me to pursue other opportunities in Pittsburgh and to concentrate on The Bloomsbury Bistro Cookbook,” she said in a prepared statement. “Closing the Bistro was a difficult decision. This could be a time of sadness, but I would like to look at it as a time to celebrate 15 years of sharing great food with great friends.”
The restaurant, which offers only lunch, will close after service on Feb. 20. The Bistro opened on April 23, 2001. “The dealers and antique shoppers were our first customers,” Cavalcante said of the Antique Mall. “They helped attract others and soon we found the Bistro itself had become a destination restaurant.” At the time, there were only a few other restaurants in the Corinth area, she added.
“We have felt blessed every day to have a restaurant the quality of the Bloomsbury Bistro inside the Mall,” said Casey Ward, owner and manager of the Mission Road Antique Mall. “Cari Jo and her staff are like family.”
Cavalcante will return to the Bistro on Feb. 8 to manage its closing. It will continue lunch service from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday until its closing day.
The restaurant is named after the Bloomsbury Group of writers, artists, intellectuals, and a loose collective of friends who began gathering on a weekly basis in the Bloomsbury district of London in the early part of the 20th century.
Bloomsbury Bistro is at 4801 W. 83rd St. in Prairie Village.
