Gordon Edward Riley was born on January 3, 1943 in Gardner, Kansas to Edward and Marjorie (Gordon) Riley. He graduated from Argentine High School and was a Vietnam War Veteran, serving as a Navy machinist mate on a guided missile frigate.
In 1967 he married Lois Skaggs and their union was blessed with his boys Eric and Jeff. The family lived in Spring Hill where Gordon worked for his uncle at Ewing Hardware and later opened Riley Heating and Plumbing. Gordon was known as the town’s handiest man.
In 1984 he married the love of his life Ramona and welcomed her girls Angie and Cori into his heart and family.
Gordon retired in 2010 as the Assistant Public Works Director for the City of Spring Hill. In his retirement, Gordon enjoyed spending time with his family including his beloved grandchildren Sarina and Nick Riley.
Gordon led a rich, joyful life and was loved by everyone he met. He served the Lord and was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, grandpa, uncle, nephew, worker and a friend to all.
Gordon was proceeded in death by his father Edward Riley, mother Marjorie Grey, uncle T.E. Ewing, aunt Lucille Ewing.
He is survived by his wife Ramona Riley of Spring Hill, son Eric (Dixie) Riley of Olathe and their children and grandchildren, son Jeff (Cathy) Riley of Gardner and their children and grandchildren, daughter Angie (Kevin) Bumgarner of Spring Hill, daughter Cori McGuire (Jeff Lightfoot) of Olathe, step-father Jack Grey of Olathe, brother Reid (Dawn) Riley of Lenexa, sister Connie Thompson of Gardner, sister Karen (Joe) Flack of Stillwater OK and many well-loved nieces and nephews.
There will be a celebration of life open house held at the Spring Hill Community Center at 613 Race Street on January 31st from 2:00 – 6:00 pm. In lieu of flowers or memorial gifts, please do something nice for someone you love.
