If 63rd Street between Mission Road and State Line Road factors prominently into your standard driving routes, it’s time to start plotting out some alternatives.
On Monday, construction crews will close the street to through traffic as they begin a project to replace the deteriorating bridge at 63rd Street and Indian Lane in Mission Hills. The scope of the project includes having WaterOne replace a water main in the area and Kansas Gas Company repair and replace pipe crossings along the road.
The project isn’t expected to be completed until November.
The upper deck of the bridge was renovated in 1991, but the original substructure constructed in the 1950s has begun to deteriorate and needs replacing.
Construction crews will also be doing work on retaining walls in the vicinity of the bridge along Indian Lane, causing the closure of parts of that road during the first few months of the year.
