NEJC cities top Business Journal list of KC’s most affluent areas

Despite what you might have read on the internet, Mission Hills — and not Prairie Village — is the richest town in Kansas.

The Kansas City Business Journal this week released an exploration of where wealth is concentrated in the Kansas City metro, and northeast Johnson County residents will recognize a number of city names among the top ten.

Mission Hills tops the list followed by Leawood and Fairway in spots two and three. Prairie Village came in at number seven, and Westwood came in at number eight.

The rankings used an 12-factor formula that includes things like home value and per capita income.

The Business Journal noted that, based on its formula, Mission Hills is the 44th most affluent city in the entire country.

The paper also ranked the metro’s wealthiest zip codes, and, somewhat surprisingly, 66208 — the code that encompasses Prairie Village, Mission Hills and Fairway — did not make the top ten. The only codes that touch the NEJC area that made the zip code list were 66207 and 66206.
