KC Blazers honored by Roeland Park. The KC Blazers swim team and coach Gardner Howard received the thanks of the city for their support of the Roeland Park Aquatic Center where they train. The Blazers donated $20,000 last year for a energy efficient heater and raised $30,000 this year to help repair the dome liner. The organization has more than 300 swimmers from beginners to Olympians with notable alumni Olympian Shannon Vreeland and Bobby Bollier who narrowly missed the Olympic team. The Blazers have nine High School Scholastic All Americans this year.

Extra trash Monday in Fairway. All those wrappings and disposable trappings from Christmas can be set out for trash pickup Monday in Fairway. It is one of the days that residents can exceed the limit of 96 gallons of trash set out for collection without paying the $1.25 for extra bags. It does not include bulk items.
