Car travels through yard and runs into house in Roeland Park; dog contributed to accident

A car ran off the road Monday morning and did minor damage to a house in Roeland Park after traveling through the yard.

The driver told police that he was distracted by his dog riding in the car with him and that caused him to inadvertently accelerate and lose control of the car.

The car went through a stop sign, jumped the curb and traveled through the yard of a home at 51st and Buena Vista before hitting the house. The driver, believed to be in his 30s, was then able to back up a few feet from the house.

It appeared that minor damage was done to the house and a landscaping wall outside. The car had damage to the front end. The driver was being examined by medical personnel at the scene. The dog also was being cared for by emergency personnel until a relative of the driver could arrive. The car had to be towed from the scene.

The accident occurred shortly after 8 a.m. The driver was ticketed.
