Mission holiday tree moves to market area. The official Mission holiday tree didn’t get its big moment at the annual Holiday Lights and Festive Sights celebration when the tree lighting had to be postponed and then moved to the community center a week later. But it now shines every night at the Mission Farm and Flower Market greenspace along Johnson Drive at Reeds.
Mission police hold first Shop with a Cop event. The Mission Police Department this year teamed up with Target Saturday to take several Mission grade school children shopping for the holiday. The kids received gift cards to buy whatever they wanted and parents and kids got to enjoy a Starbucks treat and then go out for pizza.
Merriam Farmers’ Market attendance fourth highest. The 2015 Saturday Merriam Farmers’ Market patron attendance was the fourth best in its history. Patron attendance was virtually identical to 2014 with 16,119 visitors and vendor attendance increased to 623. There were 36 vendor stalls available with an average of 26 occupied weekly. The market also was open Wednesday evenings for the second year. For the 2016 season the market will maintain the same hours: Wednesdays 4 to 7 p.m. from June 1 to Aug. 31 and Saturdays, May 7 to Oct. 8 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
