Shoppers and diners at The Village Shops in Prairie Village on Thursday evening were treated to live versions of holiday favorites.

A rotating cast of approximately 50 members of the SM East band program knocked out Christmas songs at stations throughout the center as part of the group’s efforts to raise funds for a trip to Orlando this spring. On the trip, the first the band has taken in a few years, the students will get the chance to compete against other high-level high school groups at a festival at Universal Studios. The orchestra will have an opportunity to score the soundtrack to a film at the Universal facilities, while the jazz ensemble has performances scheduled at the Kennedy Space Center.

Check out the jazz ensemble in action outside of Tavern Thursday evening:

(By the by…the SM East jazz ensemble is really, really amazing. If you get the chance to see them in action, take it — you won’t believe they’re high school kids).
