The holiday season is now in full swing with the city tree lightings this week and Boy Scout Christmas tree lots ready to serve customers.
In addition, the Shawnee Indian Mission will hold its holiday open house from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Mission’s east building, complete with 1850s decorations, entertainment, children’s craft-making and refreshments.
Boy Scout Troop 192 has begun selling trees and various greenery at the Shawnee Indian Mission with proceeds benefitting both the troop and the Mission foundation. Hours are Monday through Friday from noon to 8 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Boy Scout Troop 199 is once again selling trees and greenery at St. Michael and All Angels Church at 67th and Nall for its major fundraiser of the year. The tree lot at St. Michael’s is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
And at Leawood United Methodist Church, 2915 W. 95th Street, Boy Scout Troop 282 is selling trees and greenery. The lot opens Thursday Dec. 3 from 5 to 8 p.m. It will be open Mondays and Fridays from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 8 p.m. through Christmas.
The open house Saturday at the SIM will have a variety of music running throughout the day starting with the St. Agnes Children’s Choir at 9:30 a.m. Hammers North follows at 10:30 a.m.; the Westwood View School Choir at noon; the SM North Strolling Strings at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. with be the Kaw Valley Shape Note Singers.
The holiday open house event is free. the Mission Gift Shop will be open for holiday shopping.
