The mystery of the missing Mission Valley library signage has been solved.
Project managers for the Tutera Group were able to track them down via the demolition contractor, who had inadvertently given permission to someone to take them down. George Holler of Tutera said the contractor will be returning the letters this week.
Once the letters are returned on Wednesday, former SM East and Mission Valley librarian Kathi Knop will be working with the Shawnee Mission School District to get permission to have them reinstalled at SM East.
The letters weren’t the only part of the school building, which is currently being demolished, to find new life elsewhere.
Joe Tutera reports that his company was able to donate a number of fixtures from the school to local organizations. Kansas City Christian received a number of building materials, including doors and cabinets, that will be used in their expansion. A number of other materials were given to Habitat for Humanity.
“They both were very pleased with the results,” Tutera said. “Unfortunately vandals destroyed some items and made the space unsafe for the public to remove.”
