Mission cancels Holiday Lights and Festive Sights event Saturday on account of weather

We’ve got bad news for Northeast Johnson County families hoping to kick off the season with Mission’s Holiday Lights and Festive Sights celebration.

City Administrator Laura Smith said the city has decided to cancel the event on account of the predicted freezing rain expected to linger over the area through the evening.

“Freezing rain is just too much to ask people to endure,” Smith said. “We will regroup on Monday to see what alternatives we might have.”

Hopefully, the weather will cooperate with the other events planned for this week. Roeland Park has its tree lighting scheduled for Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Sweeney Park. Westwood and Prairie Village have events planned for this Thursday.
