One of the businesses celebrating Small Business Saturday tomorrow along Johnson Drive in Mission is really a collaboration of several small businesses. A new retail space has opened inside the Bonfire Creative Space that offers a place for local makers to sell their products.
Among the businesses that will have goods in the retail space are the six makers who share the Bonfire studio space: Merit Made Jewelry, Archetype, Ocean & Sea, Prairie Goods, and Survival Letterpress. The new retail area at the front of the building that the creative businesses share is a collaboration between Sarah Preu, who will operate dotPOP at Bonfire, and the Bonfire originators Jason Domingues and Rusty Wright.
Preu said Bonfire provides the only retail frontage in the metro for local makers. Otherwise, they would be selling at temporary locations and art fairs. Small Business Saturday is wedged between Black Friday and Cyber Monday with the intent of focusing on buying at small businesses that support the community.
The dotPOP space will feature soaps from Wildwash, prints from Two Tone Press and Shorticorn Studios, leather goods including custom belts, wallets and more from Prairie Goods, one of kind jewelry from metalworkers and natural stone experts Merit Made jewelry, and Archetype jewelry, letterpress cards and gift tags from Survival Letterpress, t-shirts from Ocean and Sea, ceramics from Neat! Studios, Christmas ornaments from local makers, children’s wear from Cartwheel Jess, craft cocktail syrups made in KC from Boozy Botanicals among others.
Preu said the makers represented in the retail area and the curated collection will be updated monthly. The space will have extended Small Business Saturday hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. with many of the makers on hand. It is normally open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and additional hours of 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday. The store is at 6104 Johnson Drive.
