A fire in a Mission Hills home on Thanksgiving evening caused extensive damage. The fire was discovered by a neighbor while the homeowners were away. The home is in the 6700 block of Willow Lane.
Chief Tony Lopez of Consolidated Fire District No. 2 said the investigation Friday appears to point to a can light on the second floor that was not the right type and did not have adequate clearance to insulation.
The fire broke out around 5 p.m. Thanksgiving evening and was under control by about 7:30 p.m. The fire “had a heck of a head start” Lopez said. It had been burning for a while before the neighbor saw smoke and flames coming from the roof.
Fire crews were on the scene all night and Friday restoration crews were at work in the house.
