SM East, SM North, KCC arts students among Shooting Star finalists

Northeast Johnson County is well represented on the list of finalists for this year’s Arts Council of Johnson County Shooting Stars awards, which recognize the burgeoning talents of high school students across a variety of disciplines.

Founded in 1997 by Bob Endres, the program has awarded more than $200,000 to date in college scholarships for students and $65,000 in honorariums for teachers.

This year’s 118 finalists will learn who earned Shooting Stars awards on Sunday, April 3, 2016 at the annual Shooting Stars Gala at Johnson County Community College.

The local finalists are:

  • SM East student Kayla Wiltfong, nominated by Amy Andersen for Literature
  • SM East student Mollie Mytinger, nominated by Adam Finkelston for Photography
  • SM East student Leah O’Connor, nominated by Tom DeFeo for Production and Design (theatre)
  • SM East student Caroline Olson, nominated by Jonathan Lane for Strings
  • SM East student Elsa Bernauer, nominated by Brian Cappello for Theatre Performance
  • SM East student Juliana Gogol, nominated by Adam Finkelston for Three-Dimensional Art
  • SM East student Hannah Scofield, nominated by Adam Finkelston for Two-Dimensional Art
  • SM North student Grant Cole nominated by Chris Palmer for Production and Design (theatre)
  • SM North student Rebecca Carroll, nominated by Keli Rodgers for Theatre Performance
  • SM North student Kori Martiny, nominated by Sydney Baumgart for Theatre Performance
  • SM North student Alice Barnard, nominated by Juli O’Mealey Simmons for Voice Classical
