SMSD-logoShawnee Mission schools have canceled classes Tuesday so students can take part in the World Series celebration.

The district made the following announcement shortly before noon:

Thirty years ago, the Kansas City community paused to celebrate the success of the Kansas City Royals as World Series Champions. Tomorrow, Tuesday, Nov. 3, the Kansas City community will once again have the opportunity to celebrate a similar victory and honor the Royals as the 2015 World Series Champions. In light of the many celebratory activities and the tremendous impact it is having on our community, the Shawnee Mission School District, along with many other area schools, will cancel classes on Tuesday, Nov. 3. This decision was not made lightly, and district leaders weighed many important factors in the decision-making process. The district will follow the same procedures for reporting for duty for administrators, teachers, and support staff as those for inclement weather days.
