William Walter Mantz, a native of Kansas City, was born February 14, 1935, the son of Herbert L. Mantz, M.D. and Mary R. Mantz. He died November 1, 2015 in Kansas City, MO. He attended Hale Cook Elementary School and graduated from Pembroke Country Day School in 1953. Bill attended the University of Colorado in Boulder, where he joined Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He graduated from Menlo College, Menlo Park, CA. Bill served in the U.S. Army, receiving his honorable discharge in 1963.
Friends will remember Bill field trialing and judging events with his black Labrador retrievers throughout the U.S. Bill enjoyed snow skiing, bicycling, fly fishing, hunting, and photography. Following his career in finance and mortgage banking, Bill retired to Palm Springs, CA. In 2013, he returned to Kansas City, MO. Bill was previously an active member of the University Club, the Saddle & Sirloin Club and the Sunrise Optimist Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Benjamin Mantz, and twin sisters Mary Mantz Griffith and Alice Mantz Stooker. He is survived by eight nieces and nephews, nine great-nieces and great-nephews, and his former spouse.
