Kelley Malone, homeless man who stayed unattended at Prairie Village City Hall, killed by car in Missouri

Kelley_Malone)KSB00kKelley Malone, the 39-year-old homeless man who Prairie Village City Councilor David Morrison allowed to spend the night unaccompanied at city hall in 2012, was hit by a car near Interstate 70 in Oak Grove, Mo., Wednesday night, the Kansas City Star reports.

Malone, who had a history of trouble with drugs, told Morrison in October 2012 that he feared for his life and that he needed a place to stay. Morrison provided Malone access to city hall, where he spent several nights before being discovered in a secure staff area the morning of Oct. 31.

The incident led Morrison’s council peers to unanimously vote for his ouster, which touched of a series of legal battles that saw Morrison unseated only to be reseated again. The Kansas Supreme Court earlier this month ordered the case back down to the district level.

Malone was walking near a Petro truck stop after 8 p.m. Wednesday when a 1993 Chevy Caprice driven by 84-year-old Kenneth Webb of Independence struck him. Malone was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
