Volunteers from Heartland Habitat for Humanity this week will be working to spruce up three Prairie Village homes in need of some TLC.
Since 2011, Prairie Village’s property maintenance staff have worked with Habitat and the Prairie Village Foundation to help identify homeowners who need assistance making repairs to their homes, and then providing the finances and volunteers to get the work done. The work can be anything from clearing overgrown brush to shoring up rotting porches and railings to restoring peeling paint.
Heartland Habitat is one of just 40 of the 1,500 Habitat affiliates to be selected for the “Brush With Kindness” program, which gets support from paintmaker Valspar and bank Wells Fargo. The involvement of the Prairie Village Foundation is a unique component to the projects carried out within the city limits.
“A Brush With Kindness Week” started Saturday and will run through Sept. 26.
