SM North’s Belesti Akalu named Hy-Vee Athlete of the Week. SM North cross country runner Belesti Akalu, who set a new school record in the 5K last weekend, has been selected as Time Warner Cable Sports Channel’s Hy-Vee Athlete of the week. Akalu’s speedy 15:27 was the top time at last weekends Olathe North Invitational meet.

SM North homecoming parade Friday. The annual SM North homecoming parade will march down Johnson Drive Friday afternoon starting at 2 p.m. The parade will leave the school and head east down Johnson Drive to Lamar and then south to the Johnson County office parking lot at Martway.


New bakery coming to Johnson Drive. Baked Expressions, which will have wedding and specialty cakes and other desserts, has taken out a business license to move into 5832 Johnson Drive in downtown Mission, the site of a former jewelry store.

SM East boys soccer looks to keep winning against SM South tonight. SM East’s boys soccer team will see if they can keep the momentum from their KAMO Tournament title last weekend moving as they face SM South Tuesday. The game starts at 7 p.m. at the Shawnee Mission Soccer Complex, 95th and Antioch.
