Little ones in Merriam and surrounding neighborhoods now have a spiffy new spot to explore early literacy skills.
At an unveiling ceremony Saturday, the Antioch Library opened up its enhanced early literacy space. Part of the library’s 6 by 6 program, which encourages families to cultivate six pre-literacy skills for their kids before they turn 6 years old, the space features active play environments for kids to interact with words and letters.
The six skills promoted by the program are:
- Have Fun with Books
- Notice Print All Around You
- Talk, Talk, Talk
- Look for Letters Everywhere
- Tell Stories About Everything
- Take Time to Rhyme
Now celebrating is sixth year, 6 by 6 has gone on to be adapted for use by the State Library of Kansas.
