How does a forecast of 70 degrees and sunny sound for an outdoor music festival right here in the heart of Prairie Village?

If the meteorologists’ predictions hold, Saturday should be just about perfect for the sixth annual Prairie Village Jazz Festival in Harmon Park.

Here’s what you need to know:

This year’s headliners will be The McFadden Brothers, the much-beloved Kansas City duo whose instrumentation, vocals and tap dancing have been delighting audiences for years. And they’ll be teed-up by seven hours worth of top-notch jazz from a world-renowned lineup:

  • 2:30-3 p.m.: The SM East Blue Knights under the direction of Alex Toepher
  • 3:2-4:10 p.m.: Peter Schlamb Quartet, featuring original compositions and be-bop standards
  • 4:30-5:20 p.m.: Tyrone Clark and True Dig featuring vocalist Lisa Henry
  • 5:40-6:30 p.m.: Horacescope, the music of Horace Silver with Stan Kessler on Trumpet
  • 6:50-7:40 p.m.: Matt Kane and the Kansas City Generations Sextet
  • 8:00 – 8:55 p.m.: Angela Hagenbach, a longtime local favorite
  • 9:15-10:30 p.m.: The McFadden Brothers with the Kansas City Jazz Orchestra, KC’s premiere big band, directed by Clink Ashlock

Admission

Organizers say the $10,000 base funding will help them book top talent for the event in 2015.

Gates open at 2 p.m. If you plan on being at the festival for most of the day and want a primo spot by the stage, get there early. Bring a blanket and lawn chairs to maximize comfort.

Tickets are $5 at the gate for adults. Admission is free for those age 18 and under.

Aside from service animals, pets are prohibited on the grounds.

Food and souvenirs

Five food vendors will be on site offering delicious eats and treats. Beer, sangria, wine and soda will all be available for purchase — outside food and drink are prohibited, as are coolers. Food sales will be cash only.

Festival t-shirts and other merchandise, along with copies of the artists’ music, will be available for purchase as well. Merchandise can be purchased with cash, checks or credit/debit card.

Parking

All festival parking is free. Parking is available in the:

  • SM East senior lot (off Mission Road)
  • Prairie Village Aquatic Center lot (off Delmar Street)
  • Mission Bible Church lot (off Mission Road)
  • Community of Christ Church lot (with access off Mission Road and 79th Street)
  • ADA drop-off location and accessible parking are available at Prairie Village City Hall, 7700 Mission Road.
