Expect heavy concentrations of Lancer Spirit along Mission Road starting at 2 p.m. IT’S LANCER DAY!

Led by the color guard and the marching band, the parade stretched from 71st Street to 75th Street along Mission Road.

Oh day of days, you have arrived!

Lancer Day, that annual amassing of Lancer goodness from across the greater northeast Johnson County area, descends on Mission Road this afternoon starting at 2 p.m. The parade will make its way from SM East at 75th and Mission down past 71st Street and into the Village Shops, where the event culminates in a pep rally ahead of tonight’s season-opening football game against Gardner Edgerton. (Motorists, be advised that Mission Road will be closed along the parade route as it makes its way toward the shops).

The parade theme for this year is Hollywood. We’ll have to wait to see what kinds of creative applications the various teams and clubs come up with — but we have the sneaking suspicion that the choir float might have something to do with Jaws:

And after the merriment of the rally is over, it’s time to get prepped for the game, which kicks off at 7 p.m. at SM South District Stadium. Need something to get jazzed? Take a look at Brian Libeer’s first team motivational video of the year:
