Victim fights back during attempted robbery in Prairie Village Shops, holds on to purse

Prairie_Village_Police_BadgePrairie Village police Friday afternoon released information regarding an attempted robbery in a parking lot at Prairie Village Shops. The address for the incident, 22 on the Mall, is the address for the Bag and Baggage store. The Prairie Village Police Department issued the following press release:

On Friday August 28, 2015, at approximately 2:18 p.m., officers were dispatched to an attempted robbery in the Prairie Village Mall parking lot, 22 on the Mall, in Prairie Village, Kansas. When the victim exited her vehicle the suspect sprayed her in the face with a duster air can. The suspect grabbed the victim’s purse and tried to take it. The victim fought back, causing the suspect to knock the victim on the ground. The victim continued to hold onto the purse and scream.

The suspect left the area in an early 2000 silver Chevy Cavalier 4D displaying no license plates. The suspect was described as a black male with a medium complexion and long, curly hair. The suspect is approximately 40 years of age; 5’ 9” tall and heavy build. The suspect was wearing a ball cap and gold eyeglasses.

The victim had minor scratches from the attempted robbery. An employee from a nearby business assisted the victim by calling the police shortly after the suspect left the area. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
